Written around a true historical event in Illinois, the book is enjoyable, looking from a fictional modern community’s point of view. The story starts from page one and doesn’t slow down throughout, gaining a bit of pace two-thirds of the way through thus explaining the title of the book. The book is not what I expected, believing the sole victim would be Dr Hadad: the story is essentially a community forced to work together in order to lay an angry soul to rest.
Questions arise such as why now? The unrest soul haunts the residents of Naperville for over a hundred years, and the moment Dr Hadad is targeted, everyone’s lives turn upside down. This leads to the second question, of all those affected by the unrest soul, why is Dr Hadad the only person to take action?

This was such a fast read but it has likeable characters with great backstories and plenty of drama. I like how as the story went on the action and the suspense really picked up. There's a nice mix of supernatural and real facts, it makes for an interesting read. For such a short read the author does a wonderful job creating a suspenseful and entertaining read! I'm definitely interested in reading more from the author! Thank you Hfvt and Shira Shiloah for sharing this book with me!
"Emergence" reminds me of Tess Gerritson's early works, which I love. It was a medical slasher with a bit of romance. I'm going to read more of Dr. Shira Shiloah's books.
