Quit Like a Millionaire Key Takeaways

1. Don’t let your money obstacles, your hardships, or your beginnings and health hold you back. Instead let it become your tools. Your motivation. Your guides.
2. Live healthy.
3. Eat healthy food. Eat by season. Not by what you see.
4. Save enough money to not worry about the bills.
5. Treasure the money that you earn. Use it wisely.
6. Work a lot. Save a lot. Ignore the naysayers.
7. Education is important. Learn everything you can.
8. Fend for yourself. Using credit cards for everything is not wise. Use restraint. Buy strategically.
9. Avoid debt at all costs. The government does not owe you anything.
10. If you want something earn it. Use your credit card strategically. Pay it off early and save ten percent.
11. Retirement is up to you. Save as much as you can.
12. If you cannot afford to get something do not get it. At all. Wait and save up for it. Then buy it.
13. Savings are important. Debt and spending and living beyond your means is not. Avoid debt. Pass by it. 14. Turn away from it. Debt is a liability. Don’t be a liability on anyone. No one should be a liability on you either.
15. Work ten times as hard as your school peers by reading more books, reviewing more books, coding more, writing more content, and focusing on the bigger picture of graduating with more savings than with what you started with. Without spending more money. You have your reasons. And read widely. Don’t read what you know. Read what you don’t know in books and keep reviewing.
16. Failure in school is not an option. Be a role model and do well.
17. Don’t depend on your parents for anything. Make your own way in life. Continue to do so.
18. Build your own safety net. Just keep it away from yourself for the future. Less now. More savings later on. A happier future.
“The past doesn’t matter. What do we do now?”- Mario Haddad Figure out what the next step of your journey will be and go for it. Stop worrying and trust in God. Find a solution. Keep going.

Biggest Takeaway

There is always a solution to every issue. Take time and figure it out.

I’ve been following the Millennial Revolution blog and FIRE movement in general for a while now, so I was really looking forward to reading this book. Thankfully, it did not disappoint. Kristy and Bryce do a great job of laying out in detail how the different retirement accounts work and how much money you need to save to reach financial independence. I also share the “optimizer” mentality around money, so the idea of investing as much as possible and cutting unnecessary expenses (without diminishing quality of life) appeals to me much more than entrepreneurship and stock picking schemes. Although I’m likely not going to be able to retire impressively early, I do feel confident that I can at least retire well before the age of 65 just by following the advice in this book and other books and blogs I’ve read from the FIRE community.… (más)

This book got me thinking about my Roth IRAs, my 401k and my savings/investments differently. Indexes? Who knew? Did you know that traveling the world actually can cost less than staying in one place (or home) for a year? Wow. This book will have you re-thinking how you think about money; and while I don’t think I’ll actually become a millionaire; I do know that this book has caused me to consider making an appointment ASAP to speak with my financial advisor and start asking more questions.
