I loved this book! The story itself swings right along, with enough twists and turns to keep me guessing. The characters, Anabella and Emily, Garret and Levon, and all the bad guys and girls lurking in the houses and streets of the wonderfully-created Lount's Landing are all well-drawn and interesting. And the antiques background to the book made me immediately want to go on Ebay and start collecting interesting antiques.

The author has studied and written about antiques and this knowledge base shows and makes this book interesting even in the parts not directly involved in the mystery. I learned just enough tidbits to keep my interest, but the antique info never derailed the pace of the story.

I should say I rarely read "cozies", as I find the characters (home organizers, knitting group ladies, cupcake cooks) too twee for me. I raced through this book, transfixed by the plot development and also developing a real fondness for the characters and the town. I see the series developing into a Louise Penny-like set of stories in Lount's Landing, with the intrepid gals solving mysteries as they sip Treasontini's at the Hanged Man's Noose pub.

Fantastic debut novel from an experienced writer.

Even if you haven't already fallen in love with Arabella Carpenter and Emily Garland of Glass Dolphin Antiques, you are going to enjoy this book. Arabella gets persuaded by Emily to host a charity golf tournament to increase publicity for their delightful antique shop. Unfortunately, the publicity goes awry when Arabella finds something rather nasty in the woods around the third hole.

(always avoid the rough, dear readers. That's where all the bodies are)

Why did I love this mystery? It's written so well. Not a single character is a stereotype. Everyone has a little extra spice (even the side characters) that enriches the story and makes the scene feel real. I've just finished reading a bunch of so-called "light" mysteries (aka no gore, no rampant sex, nothing to disturb your sleep), and I find that far too many of them rely on the single-sided plucky female with a policeman boyfriend and the following characters: a rich snotty someone; a beaten-down assistant/sister who springs into action; and (gods forbid) a psychic cat or dog or parrot or character who drops hints to the mystery.

Sheluk doesn't rely on any of the cutouts, fully developing every character. The story rips on wonderfully until the denouement and I had to read the entire thing in one sitting. I was wrapped up in all that was going on, an interesting puzzle that had enough red herrings to keep MY little grey cells active! Such a pleasure to be taken along in a story by someone who takes such good care of the reader!

I've read all of Sheluk's mysteries so far and I've loved each one. They are perfect for an afternoon on the couch, sipping the hot concoction of your choice, and traveling to the lovely Lount's Landing. I can't wait to visit again!

When you inherit something you don’t expect there to be conditions to it normally, but that is exactly what Calamity (Callie) got when she inherited her father’s estate. The conditions were to move to Marketville, in the house she lived in as a child and solve her mother’s disappearance. Her mother disappeared when she was six so it was a long time ago.
Callie goes about trying to find out what has happened to her mother, along the way meeting some interesting people and clues. I liked the tarot card reading, the eerie feel to some parts. It kept me listening and was enjoyable.
I think that this novel was well thought out and researched well too, the narrator held my attention throughout. I am eager to start the second in the series now.

I listened to Skeletons In The Attic last week and I was lucky to be able to listen to the next in the series straight away. Past & Present is set around thirteen months later, Callie has decided she is staying in Marketville and opens a new business, Past & Present Investigations. When she gets her first client and starts delving in, she finds that it really does involve the past and present.
I really like Callie, she is a relatable character. Delving in the past I found interesting, I have always wanted to find out more about my ancestors, hopefully, none have been murdered! I also enjoyed the way the clues came about. I have to listen to it from start to finish in one sitting.
Judy is a fantastic author and I can’t wait to read or listen to more from her.
