Another book about how the Schlieffen Plan unfolds under Moltke's direction. Not much new here regarding the overall view of the opening engagements of WWI. What I did find interesting were the comments regarding the action of lower level units (i.e. battalions, regiments and so on). Some the actions as described must have been absolutely brutal; heavy losses, many dead.

A final critique....I did not find many of the maps to be very useful in understanding the movement of units. Personally, it is very distracting when an author mentions locations of action or movement only to have the location not shown on the relevant map!

Anyway, an OK book. I recommend using the library for this one; save yourself the cost of purchasing it.… (más)
