Maurice Sendak was born on June 10, 1928 in Brooklyn, New York. While in high school, he worked part time as an illustrator for All-American Comics adapting the Mutt and Jeff newspaper comic strip to a comic book format. His first professional illustrations were for a physics textbook, Atomics for mostrar más the Millions, published in 1947. He later worked as a window-display director for F.A.O. Schwartz while attending night school at the Art Students League. In 1950, he illustrated his first children's book The Wonderful Farm by Marcel Aymé. He wrote his first children's book Kenny's Window in 1956 and went on to become a prolific author-illustrator. His works include Chicken Soup with Rice; In the Night Kitchen; Outside Over There; Higglety Pigglety Pop; The Sign on Rosie's Door; We Are All in the Dumps with Jack and Guy; Brundibar; Bumble Ardy; and My Brother's Book. He received numerous awards including the Caldecott medal for Where The Wild Things Are in 1964, the Hans Christian Andersen International Medal in 1970, the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award, and the National Medal of Arts in 1996. Characters from two of his books were the basis of an animated television special, Really Rosie, which first aired in 1975. He was also the set designer and lyricist for a subsequent off-Broadway musical of the same title. He was the lyricist, as well as the set and costume designer, for the original production of an opera based on Where The Wild Things Are in 1980. In addition, he has designed sets and costumes for performances of operas by Mozart, Prokofiev, and other classical composers. "¡Dídola Pídola Pon! cuenta las peripecias de la perrita Jennie, que tenía todo lo que puede desear una mascota pero, sin saber muy bien por qué, decide abandonar la casa donde vivía rodeada de comodidades que le resultaban extrañas. Sospecha que fuera de ese hogar hay otra vida más interesante y, persiguiendo sus anhelos, decide emprender un viaje lleno de aventuras".
Las travesuras llevan a Max a su habitacion castigado y sin cenar. Encerrado entre esas cuatro paredes, imagina un viaje fantastico al país de los monstruos, donde se convertirá en el rey. Un libro para aprender a domar monstruos (en este caso, de lo más dulces y tiernos).
«A Aquí tenéis Coca, Coco y Cocodrilín paseando en el jardín» ?Lluvia de cocodrilos? es un clásico de Maurice Sendak, de 1962, del que Gloria Fuertes hizo una divertida versión que llega hasta nuestros días con toda su gracia y frescura. Se trata de un divertido alfabeto protagonizado por una familia de cocodrilos que, a través de situaciones muy diversas, nos van descubriendo las letras. De paseo, disfrazados, cocinando o jugando, cada estrofa rimada comienza sucesivamente por la A, la B, la C? describiendo la escena representada en cada página.… (más)
1 Juan vivía solo como en el polo. 2 El 2 era la rata. ¡Con qué prisa saltó a la repisa! “El uno era Juan” es la peculiar versión que Gloria Fuertes hizo en 1977 de un clásico de Maurice Sendak de 1962 perteneciente a una destacada serie que se completa con “Lluvia de cocodrilos, un alfabeto”, “Sopa de pollo con arroz, libro de los meses” y “Miguel, un cuento muy moral en cinco capítulos y un prólogo”. Ingeniosas y sorprendentes, estas historias rimadas fueron distinguidas por la Asociación de Bibliotecas Americanas y el propio autor realizó una adaptación para el musical Really Rosie de 1975, interpretado por Carole King.… (más)
