What a magical adventure an elf had on his first day on the job. He reports for duty on his new assignment but is pulled out at the last minute to feed and groom the reindeer as the stable staff was tied up in caring for a sick Rudolf. One rule the elf broke when leaving the factory is that he failed to wash his hands of the accumulated magic dust from inside. As a result, he has a transformation when his magic dust mixes with Mrs. Claus' magic potion for the reindeer.

His adventure lasts the day and he returns to his job the following evening. Of course, nobody will believe his story. This is a fun read and is recommended for all ages. Great job WJ Scott.… (más)

WJ Scott states that her book, TAILS is more directed toward middle school readers. That may be true, but as an adult, I thoroughly enjoyed her story. The tale involves a wizard, evil hunters, a gypsy, magic, Silvertails, and a boy and his dog.

Silvertail's, cat-like animals, are said to possess magic in their tails. The local Wizard promised hunters rich rewards for every Silvertail pelt received, which would strengthen his own powers. This brought out the hunters by the hundreds and the Silvertail community found themselves trapped on their mountain. Only "deep magic" could save them, which required one of their own to travel through the gauntlet of hunters and travel a great distance to secure what is needed to save them. A young adolescent takes on the task - he lost his tail to hunters earlier and feels lost and powerless without it.

This story follows the youngster on his dangerous trek. He finds help along the way but the odds are stacked against him. Will he be successful in saving the clan? Highly recommended for all ages.

Brody and Tom's ill mother is getting worse so she sends the two adolescent boys to stay with her artistic and reclusive Aunt Salley. When they arrive, they find that things are out of sort; their aunt appears younger, cars are all from the fifties, and strange blue lights are visible from nearby Tucker's Mountain. With the help of the aunt's dog, they head out to investigate and uncover a secret that the town has hid for years. One that should help save their mom.

I thoroughly enjoyed Visitors by WJ Scott and recommend this story for all ages.… (más)

I thoroughly enjoyed Hieroglyph by WJ Scott and was not aware that it was considered a Young Adult story. The main character, TC is only 13 years old but appears much older as the story evolves from the principal's office. She has a special secret gift that nobody knows about; it's the gift that allows readers to go back and forth in time as TC tries to unravel the mystery of a pair of Egyptian Princes who travel across the ocean and shipwreck in Australia. Her uncle Max, an archeologist, has tried to prove an Egyptian presence there, one that everybody else refuted over time. She may be the help he needs.

Ms. Scott does a wonderful job with the timing of her story when switching back and forth in time. I couldn't wait to return to the other storyline to see how it progresses. I would also have liked to learn more about the "man" who sold TC & Max the painting; how did he know TC's secret? It was an easy read and flowed well.

All-in-all, the story kept my interest and I highly recommend Hieroglyph for any age interested in a good adventure mystery with some Egyptian history. So, when will #2 be out Wendy?
