I enjoyed this suspenseful romance. This book came from my TBR pile and probably came from a local library book sale. I've voluntarily chose to review this story. I've given it a 4.5* rating. This is not for the under 18 readers. There is a lot of tragic adult content that can be very disturbing. There is a bit of action and a lot of feels in this that leaves you thinking about this story for some time. I must admit that I needed a hanky towards the end. The author gave a large amount of depth to the main characters which I really liked.… (más)

Brandon's Bride
4 Stars

This 3rd and final installment is a significant improvement on the previous book. Not only is the mystery surrounding the disappearance of Maximillian Ferringer explained (and in a satisfying manner), but the romance between the cold and aloof Brandon and the feisty Victoria is intense and believable.

While the details regarding Max's secretive profession aren't all that surprising, the circumstances leading up to his disappearance are original, and leave the reader with a better understanding of the man.

Brandon and Victoria's relationship is the highlight of the book as these two lonely people struggle against their attraction, but ultimately realize that they are better together than apart. Even though the inclusion of young children in romance novels is not one of my preferred tropes, Victoria's son, Randy, is simply charming and his scenes with Brandon are very engaging.

The Hot Shot and firefighting storyline provide additional tension and suspense to both the mystery and the romance.

All in all, a satisfying end to the series.

MacNamara's Woman
3 Stars

Unfortunately, this second book isn't as engaging as the first in the series.

CJ and Tamara's romance is totally uninspired mainly due to the fact that they are unconvincing as a couple. CJ is actually quite beta, which is strange considering he is a former marine, and his hero-in-pursuit is overdone. Tamara is overly angsty (not surprising considering her extreme PTSD), but she is also quite cold and unemotional. They have very little chemistry and their connection feels forced.

The suspense plot is mundane and predictable. The identity of the culprit is painfully obvious as there are literally no other suspects to choose from.

It is also disappointing that there are no updates on the characters from the previous book and only a minor cameo by CJ's brother. Hopefully, Brandon's book will be better.

Written by Lisa Gardner under this pen name. Wellll--not my cup of tea really. Too predictable. Okay plot but you knew all along what was going to happen. So so.
