Germania, 1961. Simon Wiesenthal è un cacciatore di nazisti che sta cercando di incriminare l'ex comandante del campo di concentramento di Zalesie, in Polonia. I documenti in possesso di Wiesenthal affermano che nessun prigioniero è sopravvissuto a Zalesie, ma, dopo molte ricerche, scopre che il medico del campo, un ebreo, è ancora vivo. Wiesenthal lo rintraccia e cerca di convincerlo a testimoniare.
