Short comic-book-style illustrated retellings of Zen stories and koans, many of them very familiar to readers of the literature. The renditions take their humor from the humor inherent in the original stories and do not embellish them or trivialize them for a smaller joke. I would have made little or nothing of these if they had been my first exposure to Zen stories, but, once acquainted with the genre, I was able to enjoy these simple but pointed depictions of teaching stories as easily readable reminders of the lessons, often made more vivid and imaginable by the illustrator’s art.… (más)
