The two volume Bible History References written by F. Ruppert is an extremely helpful reference. Volume one contains historical, social, geographical, archaeological and doctrinal notes as well as charts, illustrations and maps that will aid in understanding the Old Testament. Volume two contains the same type of information for the New Testament. For example in volume two there is a picture of a foot lamp used by the ancients at night. There were no street lights in the cities, and of course no lights in the country. These foot lamps lighted the way for people at night. We have three complete sets of these references.
