You might say this profusely illustrated book of people and places is interactive. Whenever you open it up and take a look at one of the photographs, whether it be a building, a statue or a natural wonder, you have to learn more! You go to other books, then the internet. Before you know it you're an expert on the subject matter! You can never get enough out of this book. It is of course a daunting task to have a select amount of pictures to represent a state or whole country. Most of the time I agree with their choice, but not always! For the most part the photos are a work of art. People and architecture are well represented. Many of the buildings shown are hundreds of years old. Customs and parades are shown as well. The captions under each picture are well worth reading. Not included are Russia, Poland, China and parts of Africa. As a bonus you also get to see the cruise ships and airliners of the time. Many sports pop up among the pages, but unfortunately baseball was overlooked. I've never come across a book like this, it's well worth hunting for!… (más)
