- Reynold Ruffins was an African-American painter, illustrator and graphic designer. Born in 1930 in New York City, he was educated at the High School of Music & Art and at Cooper Union. In 1954, he co-founded Push Pin Studios with fellow Cooper graduates Milton Glaser, Edward Sorel, and Seymour Chwast. In 1963, after leaving Push Pin, Ruffins founded another design studio with Simms Taback, a partnership which lasted for more than thirty years. Ruffins entered the field of children's book illustration in 1969, and illustrated more than twenty books for children. He received a number of awards for his illustrations, including a Coretta Scott King Honor for Running the Road to ABC.
