An undemanding, quick, but also fairly dull read. John Rowland does succeed in creating a distinct narrative voice for Jimmy London, but failed to convince me that a Scotland Yard detective would just randomly second a journalist to help solve a murder, even in 1950. The ending is also artificial and contrived. I didn't hate it, but I won't be seeking out more by this author.

I kept waiting to learn that the narrator was unreliable, but, no, he wasn't. I liked the solution to the locked room (cliff railway carriage, in this case) mystery. The only man who had a key was the man who did it. Duh! Also he was not the strange, disabled person he pretended to be.
