Author/illustrator Ruth Rosner chronicles a day in the life of Nattie Witch (full name: Natalya) in this engaging little picture-book. From waking up and getting prepared for her day, to her many classes and activities at school; from her after-school play with friends, to her dinner and story time with her family, Nattie has a full and very witchy day...

As someone who enjoys witchy picture-books - a perennial pet project of mine - I was pleased to discover Nattie Witch, a title first published in 1989 that, despite my almost obsessive interest in the story type, was hitherto completely unknown to me. I found it quite charming, appreciating its simple, descriptive narrative, which lists all sorts of everyday activities - having breakfast, riding to school, feeding the classroom pet - and the way in which this ordinary seeming narrative is paired with most extraordinary visuals, in the accompanying artwork. I remember my best friends in elementary and how they changed every few months. When you're a young girl moving on to new friends is just how it goes. I can't say this book made me feel anything special. Nini has changes in her life and is having trouble dealing with it. Annie is too young to fully understand what she's going through. I think this story would have a completely different ending if it were done with older girlfriends.

This book is about two best friends who over time drift apart. Their friendship has a few problems in it, and therefor they tend to keep away from each other. I think that this book is good for students to read because it shows them that problems may arise in their friendship and how they should deal with them instead of letting them build up an get worse.
