A spectacular visual interpretation of the Stan Rogers song, Canada's "other national anthem," with lots of fascinating and insightful history, too.

Again, I had a hard time with the song/poem, but think if there was audio it would have been easier for me to appreciate. I found the historical information both interesting and informative, a good mix for children to learn about the Northwest Passage.

Stunning! Stan Rogers' song is beautifully illustrated by Matt James. Mr. James has added facts about the Franklin expedition, and other explorers of Canada's north. This book is aimed at youngsters, but highly recommended for all Stan Rogers fans.

A children's book that uses the deceased folk singer and song writer's song Northwest Passage as the basis for chronicling the history of the search for the Northwest Passage. While giving brief descriptions of many explorers and their expeditions, James concentrates on the tragic last voyage of Sir John Franklin. To this day there are still unanswered questions about the fate of Franklin and his men. Although the maps included are primitive, they do give the reader a general picture of where the Passage is and what we think was Franklin's route. James was also the illustrator for this volume and his work is on every page showing what early explorers might have seen as well as what Stan Rogers described in the lyrics of the song as he drove across 20th century Canada "In the footsteps of brave Kelsy" and the rest.
James includes the complete lyrics of Roger's song along with the music.
