SI Stuart faces another tough challenge to hunt down a killer, apparently seeking revenge and adopting a unique method, ricin poison fired from an air rifle pellet. The author's description of complex procedural investigative matters is as always impressive and never seems gratuitous but essential to plot development and momentum. Enjoyed this crime thriller. The way the bodies were hidden was very clever. I did not find it odd (as another reviewer commented) that the lead character was gay, after all we are told in lurid detail about heterosexual relationships in some novels.. Worth reading.

Cracking first book introducing DCI Tom Caton and DS Stuart, the latter to feature in the author's National Crime Agency series. As with all his stories, the author uses his encyclopaedic knowledge of Manchester geography and buildings to use real locations which make the story that much more authentic. He also has an excellent knowledge of police procedures which invests the story with added credibility.
