Once Upon a Time…In a Dental Office by Sunshine Rodgers is an inspirational work of inspirational fiction with a dash of romance. Kay Vity works as a receptionist at a dental office, complete with “wicked stepsister-ish” coworkers. She dreams of happily ever after with Dr. Chase Hatchett, one of the dentists she works with initially. But as she spends time with him, she discovers that all that appears to glitter is not gold. His obsession with money proves to be his downfall with her.

On the other hand, Dr. Brian Alchan (another dentist in the clinic), his sister, and some friends help her determine how to find her happily ever after ending. I loved reading about Kay’s interactions with the patients and her genuine concern for their well-being.

With a bookstore taking a prominent role, I found myself in a story I wanted to keep reading. I loved getting to know the characters and seeing how the plot would develop. Her ability to write poetry and help with a children’s book made this book stand out.

Maybe my first real job when I turned sixteen being at a theme park caused me to initially want to read this book. But once I started reading, I could not put it down. I loved getting to know Brittany Myers, her best friend Travis, and the other characters in this book.

Sometimes, we feel stuck where we are, and can not seem to move forward with our heart’s genuine desire. Brittany feels stuck in her job, and finds herself unable initially to get her book published, but she continues writing. Eventually, she discovers that her heart’s desires have been right in front of her.

This story moved along at a good pace and kept my interest. I also loved the inclusion of the dialogue from Brittany’s book she is writing. I also appreciated how Brittany continued writing and submitting her work until she finally receives an acceptance letter.

So check out this book for yourself. I definitely recommend it.

This is a fun book to read as we follow Brittany on her journey. When she first gets hired at the theme park she is excited to work at a place where she hopes to move up into management. Years later she is still working at the park, but things didn’t quite turn out well for her. Getting up every day to go to a dead end job is not where she wanted to be at her age. I do like that she hasn’t given up on her dream of being an author.

It can be sad getting rejection letters from publishers, but Brittany continues her dream of someday being a famous author. At times we can feel her hopelessness and dejected attitude as her life becomes a routine. The author explores what it is like as you learn what your purpose is. We all have experienced moments when we were not happy with a job, a decision or something that caused us to become stagnant. In our frustration we forget to be content where we are.

The book is short but has valuable lessons for us all. We need to remember the people around us that encourage us each day and to not take them for granted. Brittany was unhappy at her job and life but soon discovers that the happiness she had been looking for was right in front of her. I love stories that give me hope and remind me to never give up on your dream.

This book emphasizes how God needs to be the one we rely on for everything. When reading this book, keep your Bible nearby to look up the Scripture references. I feel this book provides a wealth of encouragement, but If you wish to read a theological,y-heavy book you may want to look further.

I feel this book provides the perfect quick read with the author providing encouragement throughout the pages. I recommend you check out this book for yourself.
