Maria Rodale is a third-generation advocate for organic farming and the CEO and chairman of Rodale Inc. She is the author of three books and has won numerous awards, including the National Audubon Society's Rachel Carson Award in 2004. She lives in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Maria Rodale starts with a noble purpose--to glamorize organic gardening--but the book quickly degrades into a weak and far too vanilla pudding cookbook of gardening. It is less helpful than an esoteric seed packet for new gardeners, and breaks no ground for the more seasoned. Additionally, Rodale slights the entire Master Gardener program and is frequently downright annoying.
A very well thought out, eloquent summary of conventional vs. organic farming, and why organic is better. The only thing I don't like about it is how Rodale loves big corporations, even Wal-Mart, as long as they sell organic produce. I realize that big corporations love taking divisive issues such as this and taking advantage of them to their benefit, but in my opinion, the world will be a better place without big corporations. I also have some problems with the Rodale corporation, although I'm glad that they promote organic farming.… (más)

While it may seem like "tree-hugging, hippy thinking" to some, I appreciated the science that I learned. Definitely worth the time investment.
