Biografía breve
"Broadly speaking, I work on the history of European (and sometimes American) thought in the 19th and 20th centuries. My writing has focused on three topics. The first is the history of psychoanalysis. The second is the history of ideas about human sexuality, especially the experience of gays and lesbians. The third is the connection between intellectual history and the history of opera."

Music and Eros are the twin themes of the essays collected in this unique volume. The transcendence of classic operatic compositions is addressed whether through historical complexities or the beauty of language and treatment of time. Combined with the musical essays are several essays on topics ranging from gay studies to Freud to the "vital matters" of concern to this very readable author.

This uncommon collection of autobiographical lives focuses on fourteen gay men from both different national backgrounds and unique gay lives. The lives were fashioned in different cultural contexts thus presenting difficulties that inform each individual's experience. Gay identity and the process of self-realization are brought to the fore in this thought-provoking collection of biographical and historical essays.

I think Robinson brings a level of intellectual engagement to the issues that could not be summoned up by a 21stC author. He makes some thought-provoking comments, in passing, on the relationship of a "leftist" understanding of Freudianism to less conservative views on human sexuality and the family. I see from Robinson's other titles that "gay studies" became a key research interest.… (más)

Decent overview of the homosexual right. I was expecting a lot more on the Log Cabin Republicans. It reads more like a blog (assuming the formula for good blog writing is dissertation plus personal reflection) in places than a book. A lot more could have definitely been done with the topic.
