Now that Janet Evanovich has sold her soul to the continuing publication of her (lately) relentlessly boring Stephanie Plum series, try this on for size. Better than the "16."

adult mystery/chick lit. This is a quick, light read--but only if you can overlook the fact that the narrator (Finley Anderson Tanner--apparently the author is just going to use phrases with the word "FAT" in it for titles, rather than trying to come up with something that conveys any meaning about the stories within) is not nearly as clever, as funny, or as fashionable as she thinks (Tiny cherries on a print dress? How old are we--12? or 55?). The reader can also make some pretty good guesses about the perpetrators of the crimes committed about 8 chapters before Finley eventually clues in, so I wouldn't recommend this to serious mystery readers. The main characters happen to be all be beautiful, which may be "normal" in the plasticky circles of Palm Beach, but the reader has to sit through tiresome descriptions of each, as well as what they are wearing (also somewhat meh) as they lunch at various meh restaurants (the Cheesecake factory? Are you kidding me?). That said, if you enjoy light reads, this one is quick-paced and an easy read.… (más)

Poor Darby enters quickly into a marriage, and it turns out to be nightmare. When she finds out she is pregnant, she has to get away. But, Sean, her husband won't let go easily. Her ally in the battle for freedom in the attorney she hired, Jack.

I felt a little uncomfortable with the romance between Darby and Jack because, hello, she was embroiled in a hot mess of a marriage. I felt it was a bit rushed and made me think Darby is a bit naive. I also felt that her plan left something to be desired. I mean, there were some holes you could drive a truck through. Seriously, how did she and Jack not realize that? Again, I'm left thinking Darby is too naive to live.

The end felt a bit obvious to me. It was satisfying and everything is wrapped up in a nice little bow, but with a story like this, I didn't expect such a nice, neat ending. The story had such potential in the beginning, but it fell flat for me.

FBI Agent Matt DeMarco finds a half-conscious woman (named Kresley) washed up on the beach who has amnesia and needs medical attention (she's bleeding and has a gunshot wound). In time she begins to slowly remember, in bits and pieces, what happened to her. Matt is currently searching for his missing partner (an FBI Agent named Janice) and he discovers Kresley is linked to this woman. While they try to search for answers attempts are made on Kresley's life.

Kresley was a good heroine. She really went through a lot in the past few weeks (a bloody boat massacre, getting shot) and she came out of it a fighter. Matt was a likable, strong hero. The other characters were interesting. This book is part of a series (The Rose Tattoo) but it can be read as a stand-alone book.

A fast and enjoyable read.
