Judith Roales is a retired newspaper person whose love of lighthouse history in Delaware began with her first job as a reporter there in 1964. Currently she is president of the Delaware River and Bay Lighthouse Foundation, which is preserving three historic lighthouses.

Ms. Roales is a 1965 graduate of the SIU College of Mass Communication and Media Arts, a recipient of the 1997 SIU Distinguished Alumni Award and the 2000 SIU Distinguished Service Award, and a former member of the SIU Foundation Board and the CMCMA Dean's National Industry Council. The Judith Roales News Editorial Scholarship was established to support students in Journalism, specifically those planning a newspaper career.
