Ms. Ring has written a wonderfully hilarious story of a neighborhood that I doubt any sane person would want to reside in. The neighbors are downright batty. A burly man in a black motorcycle jacket walking five chickens on leashes. Then there is Gladys – with her binoculars and clipboard – always popping up. (Reminded me of Gladys Kravitz from the TV show “Bewitched”.) What was she always writing on that clipboard? And there’s the busybody who shows up at all hours of the day or night, immaculately dressed. Does she ever sleep? Pushy, intrusive… a real can of mixed nuts. Almost creepy.
It is fast-paced, never a moment of dullness. The fastest ever grapevine of gossip. But there are also the occasional moments when you get a glimpse of the all-too-real frailties that lie behind their outrageous behavior.
Fun to visit…but I would not want to live there. This story made me appreciate my quiet, non-quirky neighborhood so much more. If you need a laugh (and don’t we all), be sure to read this book. I doubt you will soon forget this delightful story.… (más)
