A very recent book, on a subject rarely covered. In 1940 three very different people, Chaim Weizmann, David Ben Gurion and Jacob Jabotinsky traversed the United States, from their refuge in Britain, seeking to raise a Jewish army to fight Hitler. Roosevelt's and the British Government's attitude made this an act of futility. The momentum and consciousness both of Jewishness and the imminent doom of more than one-third of the Jews then living created the momentum that culminated in the creation of the State of Israel on May 14, 1948.

Racing Against History is the stunning story of three powerful personalities who sought in 1940 to turn the tide of history. David Ben-Gurion, Vladimir Jabotinsky, and Chaim Weizmann—the leaders of the left, right, and center of Zionism—undertook separate missions that year to America, then frozen in isolationism, to seek support for a Jewish army to fight Hitler.
