This is a very valuable book (on account of its maps) on the origin of California as a possession of Spain and then of Mexico. I was interested in its account of the history of Los Angeles of which a small portion of the book covers in various chapters. California was originally envisioned and mapped as an island, (or group of) off the mainland. The name of California is shrouded in mystery of which the book touches on in the notes.
Los Angeles was founded in 1781 of eleven families (46 people total), most of whom were either mulatto or Native American Indian. Los Angeles was founded as a pueblo district (not a military one). This book is a storehouse of people and events for the inquisitive person of historical interests.… (más)
