In this folktale, the peasant Sanji joins many other young boys in a contest to who will be chosen to be the next king of the land. The king gives everyone a seed to grow. But, secretly, the king has boiled all the seeds in oil so they will not grow. At the end of the contest all the other boys bring beautiful plants to display, but Sangi has only a small pot of dirt where nothing grows. Thus, Sanji is chosen to be the next king because he is willing to be honest in the face of ridicule.

The story is timeless and the message is presented gently, so it's a fun way to learn. I highly recommend this book because of its artful use of language and the important values that it presents.… (más)
