"What harm was there in a war veteran, a law abiding man, bringing their mail?... there is right and wrong,... I won't stand by and do nothing". In having the fortitude to finally stand up for herself and another, Anna set an entire chain of events in motion. In Civil Rights Movement era Alabama, a Lebanese woman should not be the only one to allow the colored mailman to bring her mail, but she did, and went one better by giving him some water on a sweltering day. With this action, Anna's story unfolds, and she tries to pick up the pieces of her life, which has gone completely awry.
