Christina Rasmussen is an internationally recognized grief educator and the author of Second Firsts. She is the founder of the Life Reentry Institute, Second Firsts, and Star Letters. Her work has appeared on NPR, ABC News, and MariaShriver.com. She lives in Austin, Texas.

As I read and research for my own project, it's interesting to see what's on offer for people coping with major change. Christina Rasmussen writes specifically for people who have lost a partner who wish to find their way through grief and back to meaningful living. Her focus and understanding of neuroplasticity add strength and interest to the stages of her process. The suggested reading list directed me to further resources for my project.

Clearly a first title from someone developing as a writer. It feels a bit brassy to point this out now that I'm weighing the variables of self-publishing and traditional publishing (aka searching for a literary agent). But knowing that uneven content -- I am not the ideal reader -- found a publisher gives me hope. While I don't have Rasmussen's connections, I have a passion to help others navigate change with intention.… (más)

I found this book a bit condescending. It seemed to assume that all people experiencing grief are unable to function. It had some good messages for people to view this change as an opportunity to start over. However not everyone wants to start their own business or can take the risks described. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone who is coping adequately with grief.
