Have a tissue handy but do not read in public as chortles will ensue from this fast-paced adult survival chase involving a positively creepy stepfather, trafficking, and motorcycles that takes an extremely long day to finish, so better to plan on two days instead. I had an ARC via Bookfunnel and this is my voluntary review.
I enjoyed reading this book, in much the same way I will enjoy eating inexpensive candy. Sweet, yes, and diverting, but hardly something I want my literary diet to consist of in the main. I think I would have preferred a longer story (things wrap up incredibly quickly at the end there—too quickly, really) with less reliance on excessive adjectives and tropes and a greater focus on developing more complex characters.
This book had a very gothic feel to it. There were a few bumps in the plot for me and there was a bit of excess buildup. The passion between the hero and heroine was very well done, and I will be looking for future titles by this author. A very different paranormal historical story.
