Nia Quinn

Maisie is a witch with the ability to give items around her sentience over time. She lives quite a lonely life and her only socializing is through a book club whose members are all witches and/or supernatural creatures.
Her everyday life is disturbed when one of her acquaintances disappears and she is thrown into solving a magical mystery. She might need to get some help with this one.

I really enjoyed the mystery part of this story. It had slightly creepy vibes that kept the stakes up. The characters were quite out of their depths, as they were just your common magical practitioners, not professionals. They had to think on their feet and combine their various powers to solve the mystery and defeat the enemy.

I just wasn't as much into the slowness of this book. The action was strongly interspersed with a slice of life content and I also felt like some of the actions they did were repetitive and redundant.

This might be a book that appeals to readers that like to take things slow and who enjoy following their characters through their everyday life. It definitely had its charm.
