Quaker Action on Alcohol and Drugs

This book provides a critical insight into the way our beliefs can influence our attitude towards substance abuse and gambling. It examines how the matter is handled in MFW when behaviours and attitudes are often concealed because they are considered too unquakerly. Such a scenario can inhibit individuals from sharing their experiences within Meeting, and in consequence often struggle alone, sensing a Meeting uninterested in their lives beyond the Meeting House.

By recognising that these barriers exist and by encouraging us to take ownership of our excesses and our inhibitions, the study shows how a climate of care and trust can be established in which individuals feel able to discuss their concerns with more candour.
