A collective biography of LGBTQ+ people throughout history, from Sappho to Harvey Milk, Leonardo da Vinci to Lynn Conway. Each double page spread includes a full-bleed illustration on the verso, and the person's name, birth dates (and death date, if applicable), a description, a sentence or two explaining their significance, and a quote. The only back matter is an author's note and sources to "learn more" (glbthistory.org, glsen.org, unerased.org, etc.). I would have liked a paragraph on each person, and sources for her quotes, but the youngest readers won't care about those things, and that's who this book is for.

Endpapers include all of the adjectives (kind, inclusive, outspoken, creative, resilient, etc.) in colorful type on a dark blue background.

Solid for a children's/young adult book, but given the title, I would have loved to see more "world", as in more countries and regions represented.

I was just looking over my favorite reads in 2017 and didn't see this book on my Goodreads list. Glad I caught that, because this is an outstanding book and one I highly recommend for readers of all ages although it was written with teens in mind. A great addition to every home, school, and public library. Prager aims for great diversity in this collection of biographies of queer folk who have made a difference in the world, as a result it is not a collection of the names you often see. I, for one, was thrilled to see the woman I was named after, Queen Christina of Sweden, included.… (más)
