The premise sounded good, the reviews were positive, and it turned out to be just the book I was looking for to buddy-read with Val. It’s a story of two people who couldn’t be more different, how they cross paths and discover that friendship against all odds can make a difference.

Confident and handsome Eric arrives from sophisticated Seattle for the summer to work in his uncle’s financial company in Tukston, a small rural Montana town. Eunice is a blunt, grumpy 46-years-old Tukston native living with a terminal illness that doesn’t give her much time to seek forgiveness from those on her list.

Even though the characters grow, relationships change, and secrets are revealed, I appreciated that not everything was wrapped up with a bow at the conclusion of the novel.

This well-written, heartwarming novel of everyday, salt-of-the earth people provides thoughtful themes of forgiveness, second chances, family, and redemption. This would make a great book club read, and there are discussion questions for all Powner’s novels on her website.

This was my introduction to award-winning author Katie Powner, and I’m going to look for more of her novels.

This is a one of a kind story!

I wasn't really sure what to expect from this debut author, but I picked up "The Sowing Season" because of the cover alone. Yes, I'm not sorry, but I judge a book by the cover. *ques shocked gasps* And, I don't regret it. I wasn't going to willingly read a book that focuses a lot on a girl who has a plan and is working towards college like Rae, only because it would annoy me and I wouldn't agree.

BUT! I am so glad I did, the main characters, Rae, and Gerrit are not your normal hero and heroine. No, they are quite different in a good way! I loved getting to see how they both grew and changed, and just learned from the past and others' mistakes.

I find myself very sad to have finished reading "The Sowing Season" and am looking forward to following Katie Powner to see what she comes up with after this thought-provokingly different book.

I voluntarily received and reviewed a complimentary e/copy of this book which I received from the author/publisher. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

Wow! What an amazing book! It is a story that will touch your heart and remind you that family and friends are the best blessings in life!

The themes of grace and forgiveness are apparent in the story. Katie Powner also deals with some heavy topics like abuse and abandonment. She also offers that comfort can be found in the Creator!

The characters are wonderful! They are genuine and relatable. I found myself deeply invested in their stories. Pete is a man who's had a hard life. He's also a man who is considerate and faithful to those he cares about. Wilma has been living a life filled with guilt. She desperately wants to find a way to fix something that happened in the past. Windy Rays faith is inspiring! My favorite character is Pearl, the pig! Her personality is BIG!

Katie Powner's writing gets better with each book. This book will touch the heart of everyone who reads it. It certainly made me thankful for my family and friends!

I was provided a copy of the book by Bethany House through Interviews and Reviews. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book is very thought provoking. It is serious with some witty humor sprinkled throughout. I really enjoyed reading this! The characters were deep and interesting.
Set in the picturesque state of Montana a story of an unlikely friendship takes place. Eric is spending the summer in Tukston hoping for a better position in the family business. Eunice is dying from a terminal illness and she's seeking forgiveness from people that she'd hurt. As Eric accompanies Eunice on her quest, he starts to look inside himself and seek answers to some hard questions. "How did anyone ever know if they were on the right path or if they were meant for something else?"

I received a free copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own
