Anton Powell is the author of Athens and Sparta (1988, 2001) and the editor (with Stephen Hodkinson) of volumes generated by the International Sparta Seminar, which he founded. Editor of The Greek World (1995), he has also edited Roman Poetry and Propaganda in the Age of Augustus (1992), and mostrar más co-edited (with Kathryn Welch) Julius Caesar as Artful Reporter (1998) and Sextus Pompeius (2002) and (with Christopher Smith) The Lost Memoirs of Augustus (2009). I think that this is a fun way to get information to children, but some of it was a bit dense even for me. I think I most enjoyed the smaller blurbs about women and the satirical approach that accompanied it, since most ideas about women were less than flattering back then. I also suspect that this is geared towards a slightly more masculine audience. I think that overall it would have benefited from more of the fluffier pieces towards the end being dispersed more evenly throughout the entire thing.… (más)
