- Janina Porazińska was born in Lublin, Poland, and studied at the Faculty of Natural Sciences at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. She made her literary debut as a teenager with the poem "Wanderer," published in a magazine in 1903. Her first book, a collection of fairy tales for children, appeared in 1912. She worked for several magazines for children, including as editor-in-chief. In 1917, she co-founded the magazine Flame. From 1929, she published many books for children in different genres, including poems, songs, cartoons, pictures, performing arts, fairy tales, poems, short stories, and novels. She also translated and adapted the Finnish epic Kalevala for children in 1958. Her own books have been translated into many languages.
