Expired Promise is the third installment in the Last Chance Fire and Rescue series. This story centers around Andi and Jude. Andi is an EMT who is a probie firefighter as well and Jude is an ATF agent. What I really liked is that Andi and Jude grew up together so they had that history and comfort with one another, but they also had some issues from the past to work past. Jude comes home when he realizes during one of his cases that a drug cartel appears to be targeting Andi's family. The story has quite an explosive beginning that definitely hooks the reader. I had so many questions about why Andi's family appeared to be in the sights of these dangerous people so I stayed engaged throughout.

Expired Hope takes readers back to Last Chance County for the second installment in the Fire and Rescue series. This story centers around Macon and Natalie. Macon wants to be fire chief, but first he will need a positive assessment by Natalie, a counselor that has been assigned to evaluate the crew at the fire house. It becomes quite apparent through some nail-biting situations that Natalie is going to need help from Macon as much as he is going to require help from her. Both of them have issues to work through from their pasts, but readers get to see them both grow so much throughout the story. There were some twists I did not see coming and I was engaged by the dangerous action scenes throughout the book. There was definitely a good balance of romance and suspense.
