This book is entitled The Life and Films of David Lean - however I would say 99% of the book is about the films and there is very little about Lean's life. The author did a good job of research and interviewed many, many people who worked with Lean which is great. And reading about the films was interesting but the interminable film summaries were tiring and even worse when a film was taken from a play and then you got the summary for both the play and the film. I would have liked to have learned more about Lean himself. He was married 6 times but you really never knew how he met each wife, what attracted him to them, how the relationship started and ended. I would have liked to have known what happened to his only son from his first marriage. The book is a good source for info on the films but not for info on the man.… (más)
