My rating: 5 out of 5 stars.
The Ladies of the Lake series began with Destined for You where Gloriana Womack and her family are the central players who make their living on Lake Superior. In Forever My Own, Kirsten Hallberg comes to America to live with her grandmother who came from Sweden years before her. Kirsten is a strong young woman of faith who loves to help people be reconciled to one another. She is one who doesn’t shy away from truth and much of what she knows is due to the influence of older godly women she listened to in her younger years.
Ilian Farstad is a man who wants nothing to do with his father due to the influence of his mother as he grew up. When a logging accident happens and he is laid up for a long time, it may just be that his perspective is challenged when he is nursed by Kirsten.
Throughout the book readers meet both Kirsten’s and Ilian’s family with each having a past that needs God’s touch. The connectedness of the neighbors is due to them coming to America together and helping each other in daily living. I enjoyed the story of folks gathering to celebrate, work and practice their faith.
One aspect of the novel I really enjoyed was how faith wasn’t shown to be easy or wishful thinking. It was portrayed at times as wrestling one’s emotions, laying down one’s rights and leaving it in God’s hands to name a few.
I hope you will read the series and enjoy the first two books as I did. I look forward to the third book coming out in the fall titled, Waiting on Love. A snippet is included in the book for readers to enjoy! Also, I encourage people to read the Author’s Note that gives interesting historical information.
