Biografía breve
Frederick Beecher Perkins, a member of the famous Beecher family, worked as a writer, magazine editor, and librarian at the Connecticut Historical Society, Boston Public Library, and San Francisco Public Library. He spent long periods away from home and eventually divorced his wife, Mary Anne Fitch Westcott, in 1869, leaving her and their two children nearly penniless.

This is called the first American "bibliomystery," and there are some really interesting elements of biblio-sleuthing, for sure, as well as some insights into the waste-paper trade, the publishing industry, &c. The author includes some very amusing character names, as well. There's also a fair bit of period stereotype employed, and some bogging down of the narrative in a few places. And not surprisingly, I wanted more about the books.
