Josie Penny was born in Roaches Brook, Labrador to Métis parents who lived a semi-nomadic lifestyle. As a seven-year-old she was sent to residential school. Although an education was a benefit, Josie was heart-broken after her initial excitement. At eleven, she started work. This memoir covers her life until the age of seventeen. It is an inspiring story of a feisty, good-humoured child who loved her life and family. Recommended.
