An interesting story, like a 20/20 documentary. It goes into a lot of detail regarding a kidnapping and death, but does get repetitive after a while. It's sad how some police departments get away with their own justice and don't have to be accountable.

Scrapped: Justice and a Teen Informant: The Real Story of Heidi Allen’s Kidnapping is an unpalatable recount about a miscarriage of justice. What surprised me the most was the total indifference and ineptitude of the original investigators, police and prosecutor. They had an agenda disconnected from finding truth and justice. The sheriffs were on the trail following the wrong guys. They framed two brothers for the disappearance of Heidi Allen.
When Heidi was 15, she was arrested. Too avoid jail, a deal was made and she was forced to become an informant for the deputies of the Oswego County Sheriff’s office.
In 1994, the sheriff’s office had no suspect or motive so the FBI was called in. A report was prepared regarding a profile of Heidi’s kidnapper. It stated in part that the “kidnapper was likely to follow the investigation closely.” This was ignored.
In 2018, Gary Thibodeau died in prison without any resolution of his case.
The authors Lisa Peebles, head of the Federal Public Defender’s Office in Syracuse, N.Y. and & John O’Brien, a former reporter for the Post-Standard Newspaper did a great job of organizing, documenting and presenting the information.
If you are interested in crime, the criminal system, truth or justice, this a great book to read.

A very sad and frustrating story of a murdered girl, an incompetant police force, and a long search for justice. Honestly, this gave me so many feels. This poor guy was totally fitted up by the police because they didn't want to admit that they had screwed up. This is a really good book and I am not especially into the whole true crime thing. Definitely worth a read!

Wow!

I'm a little torn with this book. From one side, it was good with the facts and how one sided the justice system was to condemn an innocent man. So sad.

On the other, I found myself losing interest with the length of the book and how some things were repeated multiple times. If this was a TV doc, I'd have no complaints. In a book, cut back.

But overall good read and great facts.
