Bruce Paton is a retired cardiac surgeon & wilderness medicine expert. He has accompanied expeditions as a trip doctor to Alaska, South America, Africa & Nepal. The author does acknowledge the poor judgement, greed, racism, and sexism in an almost regretful tone. But he admires the leadership qualities and the endurance and courage" of these men so much, that even when he tries to be objective, he comes across as adulatory. He can never quite bring himself to condemn any man or action.
