My son and his wife are expecting their first child in mid-February and gave me this book for Christmas. I have to say, it was a delightful, light-hearted read that had me chuckling all the way through. I am now better prepared to be the 'perfect grandma' for this little one when he/she arrives!
I know this is supposed to be a funny, tongue-in-cheek book, but I found it not only extremely irritating but embarrassing for Paston. Underneath the (supposed) humor, it leaked resentment. A better title would be "How to be a passive-aggressive grandma without admitting it."
And she's so competitive! I pity her poor daughter-in-law (not to mention the d-in-l's mother): "Daughters-in-law come prepackaged, all wrapped up with their own mothers. Even though we know you are the better grandma, try not to show it when her mother is around. And this is important: check periodically with your grandchildren to make sure you are winning the grandma race."
