Getting Lei'd (Escape #1), my twenty-third read from author Ann Omasta. After having read Aloha, Baby! (Escape #0.5), & planning on reading the rest of the Escape Series books I found myself side-tracked by The Pet Set Trilogy: Goofy Newfies, Itty Bitty Kitties & Funny Bunnies. This is another, entertaining, and well-written HEA read from her (as narrator the author does a wonderful job). I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing it. Now on to Cruising for Love (Escape #2). (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).… (más)

I absolutely love this book! I freely admit that if there is a dog involved, (cats welcome, too), I will be interested. That doesn't guarantee I will love the book but it will go on the TBR.
Goofy Newfies was a wonderful find! I thought it would be a romance with a dog or two thrown in. It isn't...yet it kind of is. There is a romance going on but it is anything but typical. If you love dogs this is definitely a book you will want to read. If you are looking for a fun, no stress quick read, buy this book. There is nothing to dislike in it. It is a short book so without giving out spoilers...there are dogs, there is exasperation, there is fun, there is love. It is well written by an author who clearly loves a dog or more. I'm so happy I read this! You, most likely, will be too.

This book is the fifth book in the Brunswick Bay Harbor Gems Book Series. I have not read the books before this one. I have not read much romance this year. With the crazy events this year my reading had swung to thrillers and mysteries. I saw this one though in a Goodreads Giveaway and the synopsis intrigued me. I don’t think I noticed it was five books into the series. I’m glad I didn’t.
I enjoyed reading this book. I didn’t even fully realize that I missed out on some prior events until about halfway through. I missed something major. Did it lessen my enjoyment of this book? No. It did intrigue me into wanting to start at the beginning but I was able to read this book, invest in the characters and thoroughly enjoy reading it. I knew the general idea of what I missed. The author did one of the trickiest things you can do with a series. She wrote a book that was dependent on the books prior to it, gave it only the necessary information from prior books and made it stand alone for the majority of the book. I do not have to read prior books to understand this one. I do need to read the next one though as this does end on a huge cliffhanger.
This book opens with Molly narrating. She is with her friend Dani when her brother, Max, enters the scene carrying a baby. The baby turns out to have been abandoned at the fire station. Molly is holding him when an accident occurs.
Grant is the second voice we hear from. He is an actor, (for me, I was calling in Johnny Depp. You can put in whatever actor floats your boat.), the driver of the car involved in the accident and the father.
This made for the perfect book for me to escape into. No one, who knows me, would have called that. I mean I’m the girl who calls zombie books her favorites, (if backed into a corner and forced to choose one genre), I am not usually thrilled with multiple narrators, I hate cliffhangers and it’s the fifth book in after a major event that I didn’t read.
I should be intensely ambivalent, at best, yet I love this book so much.
I really liked Molly, Grant and Scout. I wanted them to be together. I disliked Grant’s actress love interest from the moment she took over. It was an amazing escape, (I did have a couple of starts before I settled in). Once I settled in I devoured the book. I quickly became invested in the characters. I loved the plot. I enjoyed it so much that I didn’t even get mad at the cliffhanger.
(I usually will put off reading books with cliffhangers until the series is close to completion. I call that, “Game of Thrones stress syndrome,” as it is the stress where we wait forever for the next book. It has made me very wary of books that hinge on the books surrounding it.)
My bottom line on this book is a recommendation to read it. I would say definitely read the books in order but you don’t have to, (you will have to get book six, so plan for that). I’m going back to the books before this. I want to know about what happened with Claire, Dani and Molly. Read this one because it’s great for escaping reality. We all have that actor crush. Go enjoy the story. Better yet, enjoy the series!
*Editing it to say, I was a lucky winner in the Goodreads Giveaway! Thank you to Goodreads, and the author. A review was not required. I voluntarily reviewed this book and the review is based upon my reading experience.*
