Prior to the second World War, homes and commercial buildings were designed to last as long as possible. While many of these buildings are viewed as inconvenient, they reflect the realities of their time - no need for closets, no community water or sewer lines, electrical or other current needs. And to those who boast that all progress is marvelous, the author quietly says *asbestos*. The need to assess the building you hope to restore before you begin is not just for obvious issues, but also for the less visible problems caused by neglect or haphazard prior *rehab attempts*.
