I was surprised to find a J fiction book with such a frank discussion of AIDS and sex. I appreciated the frankness and the clear intention of the author to give the readers some practical sex education along with their fiction.
Another star in the She Persisted series, and again for exceptionally great writing. I learned so much about Wangari Maathai, and I really appreciated doing it while reading such a compelling narrative. Odhiambo keeps the rhythm of storytelling throughout the book -- she's lyrical at painting the setting in such a way that you know why Mama Miti fought so hard to restore the land. She doesn't mince words about challenges, fear, and persecution, but she manages a balance with hope and achievement and persistence.… (más)
Was a really good book. Would definitely recommend. Interesting, and has action but not to much action.
I'm giving this a generous three stars. It was mostly a slog, but I have a feeling that the characters will stay with me.
