This book is a bit different in style.
Times are hard and making a living is difficult and this is not hidden from the reader.
The story is sad and a bit depressing and then a bit predictable to get to the HEA.

Northrop's first book as a smooth, stark read. The poems deal with the memory of moments after & before interruptions that range from obvious interruptions such as accidents and deaths, to smaller, stinging moments: words whispered in the speaker's ear or the red startlement of a geranium blossom. In addition to being a good, compelling read, this is a great book for bringing students to poetry. I've used Northrop's poem from this collection, "The Dead" as a first-day text in several introductory writing and literature classes and can highly recommend both the poem and the book as a whole. The smooth, assured movement of the language is deceptive in its simplicity, and allows novice poetry readers immediate entry, while exposing them to more formal skill than they realize. Northrop's new book, /Things are Disappearing Here/ is due out in April, and I'm eagerly awaiting the release.… (más)
