Gil North (1916–1988)

I liked this book. It's a gritty suspenseful mystery story. It's not a whodunnit but has an exciting and dramatic conclusion. It's the first in a series and introduces Sgt Cluff to readers. He's a standout character, who may not appeal to everyone, but I found him likeable. However, he gets the job done.

The introductory essay by Martin Edwards is informative and a good read too. It sets the stage for the story as well as providing a brief biography of the author.
