An absolutely stunning tale of someone finding himself. It took me a while to get into it, being stuck in the middle of an acid trip is tricky, but once in I couldn't get out again. One of the Great unknown gems of Contemporary Literature. Gurney Norman is the Mark Twain of Appalachia!

Dunno how a young 'un would find this nowadays, but it was a very big deal to me as a teenager in the early 70s, and I've enjoyed re-reading it several times since.
