The second novel and first English fiction release of Gunnar K. A. Njalsson, "Harper: A Collection of Horrors" lives up to the description on its back cover. While some of the antagonists may not be scary to some people, there are plenty of them and a good chance that at least some of the very unique creatures will terrify the reader. This is a deeply disturbing novel with fear that is not only due to monsters; but also to more worldly concerns that involve trust and the lack of it. Njalsson brings to life a diverse community living in fear- tangible and penetrating fear. He manages to communicate the loss and emptiness which is often omitted from stories in this genre- how the survivors and loved ones have to pick up the pieces of their lives and try to move on. This is perhaps one of the most unique aspects of this novel within its genre.… (más)
