DR. Kevin Leo Yabut Nadal is a Professor of Psychology at both John Jay College of Criminal Justice and Graduate Center at the City University of New York. He received his doctorate in counseling psychology from Columbia University in New York City and is one of the leading researchers in mostrar más understanding the impacts of microaggressions, or subtle forms of discrimination, on the mental and physical health of people of color; lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) people; and other marginalized groups. This book was super exclusive in regards to the community itself, only acknowledging the 'big four,' and as a queer person, I (and my classmate who read it with me) found it to be quite insulting. In addition, it claimed that certain language widely used by the LGBTQA community, such as the word 'homosexuality,' were considered slurs but other words that are genuinely offensive, such as the words 'transsexual' and 'transgenderism,' were considered okay. This is hugely inaccurate in regards to much of the community and was seen as demeaning by many of the community members I spoke to about it.… (más)
